ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of Torus Palatinus [TP] in the earthquake effected population of Indonesia. This study was conducted in out door dental clinic at a Pakistan Medical Mission Hospital during earthquake relief activities in June - July 2006 in Kalatan District Chawas Central Java, Indonesia. With clinical inspection and palpation 300 individuals were examined for presence or absence of Torus Palatinus. 26.9% exhibited TP. Age ranged from 20-70. Torus Palatinus was more common in men than women, and it was more common in second and third decade irrespective of sex. The occurrence of TP is related to increasing age and we also support the hypothesis that the etiology of torus palatinus involves interplay of multifactorial genetic and environmental factors

To determine the bilateral occurrence of dental caries in mandibular first molars of 15-20 year old adolescents. This cross sectional comparative study was conducted at Armed Forces Institute of Dentistry, Rawalpindi between October 2005- March 2006. Five hundred patients including 250 boys and 250 girls were examined for dental caries using visual and tactile inspection in conjunction with bitewing radiographs. A right-tail Z-test was used to test the bilaterality levels. The bilateral occurrence of dental caries in mandibular first molar was calculated to be 66%. There was no significant difference in the bilaterality of dental caries in boys and girls. The distribution of caries was similar on the right and left sides of the oral cavity. Bilateral occurrence of dental caries was high in mandibular first molars

ABSTRACT

Odontogenic cutaneous sinus tract is a rare but well documented condition. It is usually misdiagnosed as a local skin lesion and maltreated by systemic antibiotics and/ or surgical excision with eventual recurrence. This is because the primary etiology is incorrectly determined. We came across a 38 year old patient who presented with a cutaneous lesion on her left cheek with frequent purulent discharge and was not responding to systemic antibiotics. The case history, diagnosis and management of this condition is presented here
